Jess Carter Art
Jess Carter is a London-based ceramic artist whose practice explores the relationship between materiality, memory, and the fragility of natural forms. Working primarily in clay, she creates sculptural vessels and organic compositions that balance delicacy with permanence, drawing inspiration from the rhythms, textures, and imperfections found in the natural world. Her work reflects a deep appreciation for craftsmanship and process, combining traditional ceramic techniques with a contemporary sculptural language.
In 2025, Jess graduated with an MA in Fine Art from Camberwell College of Arts, University of the Arts London, having previously completed a BA (Hons) in Fine Art and Art History at the University of Leeds. Alongside her academic training, she also studied Art Business and the History of Art at Sotheby's Institute of Art, developing an understanding of both contemporary artistic practice and the wider cultural landscape. This combination of creative and commercial experience continues to inform her work, allowing her to navigate the worlds of fine art, design, and collecting with equal confidence.
Jess's work has been acquired by several significant private and corporate collections. Her sculptures are held in the permanent collection of The Groucho Club, London, and within the Soho House Global Art Collection, including Dean Street Townhouse in Soho. Her practice has also been recognised by The Wick, where Dylan Jones OBE praised the maturity and sensitivity of her artistic vision. Following her debut solo exhibition, Fragile Forms, presented in collaboration with luxury stationer Rachel Vosper in Belgravia, selected works were acquired for the permanent collection of the Rachel Vosper flagship store, marking an important milestone in the early development of her career.
Alongside her artistic practice, Jess has built a career working across London's leading creative and cultural institutions, including W Communications, Designers Guild, Maddox Gallery, Christie's, Saatchi Gallery, and milliner Jess Collett. These roles have provided extensive experience in luxury branding, communications, exhibition planning, and the presentation of visual culture, while offering valuable insight into the relationship between artists, collectors, galleries, and audiences. Working within these environments has strengthened her appreciation for craftsmanship, storytelling, and the importance of creating meaningful experiences through both objects and spaces.
Her practice is shaped by a broad creative curiosity and an enduring fascination with material culture. Time spent working within galleries, luxury brands, and historic collections has informed her understanding of aesthetics, while her background in art history continues to influence the conceptual framework of her work. Each ceramic piece is approached with patience and precision, embracing the unpredictability of clay and the subtle traces left by the making process. Rather than concealing imperfections, Jess allows them to become part of the narrative, celebrating vulnerability, transformation, and the quiet beauty found within handmade objects.
In addition to exhibiting her own work, Jess regularly undertakes private commissions and enjoys collaborating with collectors, designers, and creative partners to produce bespoke ceramic works. Her practice continues to evolve through research, experimentation, and an ongoing dialogue between sculpture, design, and the natural environment, with each body of work reflecting a commitment to thoughtful craftsmanship and enduring material quality.
